Worldbuilding Changelog

A durable, reverse-chronological record of canon changes — especially retcons (where new information overrode established canon) and major additions. Maintained as part of the ingest workflow. Newest entries first.

2026-06-18 — Elemental magic: follow-up rulings (Connection drift, Primal Devices, the Forgotten's finer points)

Ratified the second-pass proposals on the elemental-magic change.

  • Primal can't be bound, only fueled (Forms; Devices): there is no "elemental Hypodochē" — an elemental Device is stored Exousia shaped by an Investment Set (Innovation-craft, not the Forgotten's).
  • The Forgotten — finer points (subsection): former people left ambiguous-to-absent; in-world folk belief "the elements belong to no house"; kept separate from the Cosmic Wound (design-bible "may-link" note, not committed).
  • Connection is now a defined term with a drift (The Connected): sustained channeling slowly drifts a soul toward full alignment with the Forgotten — spiritual and physiological — checked by being split (keeping a living lineage-bond, as Sophia does). The drift's far extreme is the only Synagōgē/re-gathering path (Phaidros's latent whisper). The Rigidity-framed terminal failure ("the Stilling") parked in IdeaBank.
  • psychic → Wisdom (provisional); arcane→Investment & occult→toxic confirmed. New consolidated Archē → damage-type map question.
  • Shaping = self-binding / Blooming = seeding accepted in principlenot yet canon, pending (a) how the Disruption warped both Forms and (b) reconciling Blooming with Paidi's Harmony/Miens. Filed in Open_Questions.

Affected

Cosmology.md, Devices.md, IdeaBank.md, Metaphysics_Summary.md, Open_Questions.md.

2026-06-18 — Elemental magic reconciled: the Forgotten (Primal) + the Connected

Settled how elemental magic coexists with the (mostly non-elemental) cast. Frame: A+C hybrid — elemental magic is the Primal Form, a common substrate owned by a scattered Archē; the cast is non-elemental because each member expresses their lineage's non-Primal Form.

  • The Forgotten — the scattered Archē (new Cosmology subsection). One Archē fell into permanent Skorpismos in deep prehistory; its scattered substance is woven through the world and is the ambient elemental Exousia → the Primal form. In-world nameless ("the Forgotten"); design-bible identity = Reliability, Shadow Rigidity (the irony: the most dependable force, taken for granted until forgotten). Added to the Eidolon roster (marked scattered/uninhabited). The Skorpismos "none in recorded history" line amended to name it the lone prehistoric exception.
  • Primal rewritten (Forms of Exousia). No longer "direct expression of an Archē's power" — now communion with the scattered: element called from what's present, terrain-coupled (blooms in Forest, starves in inert city), not lineage-locked (the elemental "schools" are specializations of one art). The "each form is the gift of a specific Archē" intro amended — Primal is the exception (scattered → diffuse).
  • The Connected (new Cosmology subsection). Because the Forgotten has no bloodline, Primal is reached by Praxis/disposition, not blood: apartness opens the socket (the unmoored/iconoclast), disposition decides the current (the steadfast resonate with Reliability).
  • Per-character channel pass. Phaidros = strongly Connected, native Primal/earth channeler (gauntlets = focus); shifts Consumption-susceptible → resistant (vents by casting), leaving Vaughn the sole fully-susceptible member. Sophia = partially Connected (water), Nacrine-augment-amplified. Tagged in Exousia_Economy §5, both archetype files, and both bio pages.
  • Damage-type → lore-source map adopted: Primal = fire/ice/lightning/earth/wind/water · Shaping = necrotic/disease/bleed · Blooming = radiant/divine · Investment = arcane · toxic Exousia = occult · psychic = open.

Affected

Cosmology.md, Exousia_Economy.md, archetypes/phaidros.md, archetypes/sophia.md, characters/phaidros.md, characters/sophia.md, Open_Questions.md, WorldbuildingSynthesis.md (its "Magic Systems and Theory" section reconciled — Primal carved out as the lineage-unlocked exception: the Forgotten / the Connected / communion-with-the-scattered / terrain-coupled).

Open

psychic damage-type source (unassigned Archē — Wisdom?); confirm arcane→Investment / occult→toxic; Shaping & Blooming Praxis/Hypodochē treatments; the Forgotten's Synagōgē re-gathering as a long-horizon arc (sits beside Cyrus's Innovation-ascension and the Cosmic Wound).

2026-06-18 — Entropic Blade decoupled from Cyrus's kit; Named Devices catalog created

Definitively separated the Entropic Blade from Cyrus's combat archetype. The Blade remains the runic sword Cyrus acquires mid-campaign, but is now additive, optional equipment — Cyrus is a Positional Striker (displacement + cleaves, pure technique) with or without it.

  • New canonical doc: Named_Devices.md — the mechanical catalog for named Devices (charges, Device-only Skills, gear-conditional Momentum, gear-derived statuses). Sits between Devices.md (lore) and Equipment_System.md (framework). The Blade's full rules now live here.
  • Retcons (Blade removed from Cyrus's kit): his roster tagline (now "displaces enemies and punishes them for where they stand"); his per-character "special resource" row in Combat_Mechanics (removed — Device charges are an equipment resource, not a character-identity resource); the Tune Momentum (moved out of Cyrus's innate Momentum catalog to the Blade's catalog entry — it is gear-conditional); his Bleed secondary attribution (corrected from "Entropic Blade" to "edge work," matching his archetype); Burning (removed as a Cyrus status — it was purely Blade-derived; now flagged as Device-derived, not innate to any character).
  • Demo-note fix (Exousia_Economy): the Blade is acquired mid-campaign, so opening city fights are pure technique — Cyrus wouldn't have it yet. Also reframed his zone profile: core kit is non-magical (works citywide); any elemental output is optional Device-borne.

Affected

Named_Devices.md (new), Devices.md, archetypes/cyrus.md, Combat_Mechanics.md, Momentum_System.md, Equipment_System.md, Party_Combat.md, Characters.md, Exousia_Economy.md, CLAUDE.md.

2026-06-17 — Per-character zone profile (innate vs. Device-driven)

Resolved (at character level) which of each playable character's kit is innate (works in the inert city) vs. magic/source-gated, and finalized the Consumption-resistance roster. Full table in Exousia_Economy.md §5.

  • Augmentations are internal Exousia sources — Sophia & Lione cast in the inert city, unlike natural casters; Cyrus's magic is Device-borne (also citywide); Paidi's light heals are innate (heavy heals gated); Chiranjeevi's Vanarism is self-contained.
  • Consumption: only Vaughn & Phaidros are fully susceptible. Everyone else resists by a distinct mechanism. Added Outsiders to Cosmology — Who survives the flood (Euphen: no native resonance to mismatch).

2026-06-17 — Exousia economy: zone magic, the Consumption loop, Device revival

Settled how magic, the Forest, and Devices behave as gameplay, all derived from one metaphysical law (signature matching) and the Exousia shell. New design doc Exousia_Economy.md; metaphysics committed to canon.

  • The Exousia shell + zone magic (new Cosmology subsection). Ambient Exousia pools around a soul as a shell (substance) that Praxis (will) shapes. Forest: shell refills free → magic costs only MP, ampoules recharge. Inert city: no shell → magic needs an external source (ampoule/soulshard/charged Device); will-based techniques are unaffected. Resolves the "magic in the city needs an external power source" requirement.
  • The Consumption is unspent accumulation → casting vents it (Cosmology). Active casters shed the surplus and sicken slower than passive lingerers; never a cure. Party-resistance is not blanket: only Cyrus & Sophia (old-resonance/time-preserved), Chiranjeevi (Vanarite), and Paidi (Elpidi Ward) are exempt — Vaughn, Phaidros and other modern natives are not.
  • The Device Problem + hidden correction (new Cosmology subsection; Devices.md rewritten). Two layers — supply (ampoules patch it crudely → Devices run unreliably) and signature (the deep fault). The fix is a single discovered correction (Elantris-style), Cyrus's arc, re-enabling a dormant tech tier.

2026-06-17 — The Disruption's architects named

Follow-up to the Disruption settlement: established who is behind it and Cyrus's place in it.

  • Humility is the primary actor, and she (pronoun fixed — Humility is female). The Collective is her arm. Her aim is narrow — to have the Sophronoi subsume other peoples (enlarge her domain via the Archē-blending mechanic), not to unseat a god. Reframes the earlier "Humility yearns to escape the world" note: the prison-memory breeds the pride that drives subsumption; she did not intend god-supplanting.
  • Secondary actor: an unnamed brother of Euphen — another wanderer from the higher reality — who gave the Elders partial knowledge of how to supplant an Archē. Identified as (almost certainly) the existing "Master of Those Who Know" / the Enlightenment figure. His partial gift is now the in-world reason the Collective's control is partial.
  • Cyrus is of Innovation (explicit) — Glyphein through his Source mother, i.e. of the harvested bloodline — and of Wisdom's founding desert stock through his father, the thread by which Wisdom reaches him. Cleanly grounds his existing secret ending (becoming the Eidolon of Innovation) and Wisdom's patronage. Resolves the "is Cyrus of the harvested bloodline" open question.

Affected

Cosmology.md (Skyne §; new "The hands behind it" subsection + Wisdom subsection), Factions.md (Collective: hand-behind / partial-control; Master of Those Who Know), characters/cyrus.md, characters/euphen-extended-origin.md (brother section), WorldbuildingSynthesis.md, Story.md, Metaphysics_Summary.md, Open_Questions.md.

Open

Brother's name/motive/whereabouts; confirm Master-of-Those-Who-Know identification; Wisdom's empowerment channel for Cyrus; how Humility responds if her instrument turns supplanting-ambition toward her.

2026-06-17 — The Disruption settled

Resolved the long-paused central question — what the Disruption is and does — reconciling the engineered-Ascension-Ceremony canon with the legacy "magic-cancer" framing (sourced from the legacy Exousia.txt, which supplied a precise resonance/Domain mechanism). Full model in Cosmology — The Disruption.

The settled model

  • Target = the Archē of Innovation (the Glyphein bloodline's god). The Kuklos populace are Innovation's Glyphein — hence their consensus is condition #2. Resolves the "which Eidolon is targeted" open question (had been leaning Wisdom).
  • Domain overwrite = the layered zones. Condition #1 strips the land's Innovation-resonance; displaced Exousia (indestructible) compounds outward into the concentric zones of the Unknown.
  • The magic-cancer is reconciled as the Consumption — overaccumulation (insanity + cancerous growth) in mismatched souls; the opposite pole to Husking (flooded vs emptied), not the same phenomenon.
  • Condition #2 met by two routes: spiritual death (the Consumed outer bloodline) + engineered despair (the sheltered inner Glyphein).
  • Wisdom intervenes, empowering Cyrus because she fears Innovation is only the Collective's first target. The Collective is in partial control only.
  • Artificial re-tuning of a soul's resonance is now the metaphysical license for the Collective's Augmented / Nacrine / Vdélygma augmentation tech.

Overrides / retcons

  • "Exousia Sickness" → "the Consumption." Renamed and given its mechanism; "Exousia sickness" kept as the clinical synonym. Affected: Locations.md.
  • Elpidi protection. Previously "the only thing preventing them succumbing to the Forest's madness is travelling in large groups." Now a treasured Device is the true shield; the group-travel belief is demoted to secondary folk-explanation. Affected: Factions.md, Devices.md.
  • The "earlier magic-cancer framing" is no longer a competing open theory — it is folded in as the Consumption. Removed the paused-framing note from Cosmology.

Deferred (deliberately)

  • The Cosmic Wound — the faint tearing at the targeted Archē is the first on-page glimpse, but its nature is a multi-game reveal; do not resolve on-page. (Open Questions.)

Open questions spawned / updated

  • New naming items: the Elpidi's protective Device (working name the Elpidi Ward) and Devices generally. Wisdom's empowerment channel for Cyrus; Cyrus's own bloodline; Humility's relation to the Innovation-target. Resolved: target Archē; "what is the Disruption."

Propagation

Updated Cosmology.md, Locations.md, Factions.md, Devices.md, WorldbuildingSynthesis.md, Story.md, Metaphysics_Summary.md, Open_Questions.md.

2026-06-17 — Eternal Spiral metaphysics salvaged

Triaged the deprecated Eternal Spiral / Synthesis Pantheon framework (legacy doc) against current canon. Purely additive — no retcons.

Additions to Cosmology.md

  • The Eternal Spiral — a process-time layer. The Archai turn through Emergence → Manifestation → Transformation; the three Mechanisms of Power Transfer (Succession/Ascension/Skorpismos) are reframed as the three modes of the Transformation phase. "Spiral, not circle": each turning returns the Archē changed. Includes a scholarly Tikkun-reading that seeds the Cosmic Wound question.
  • Matter and the Panpsychic Substrate — matter is low-intensity Exousia; the world is panpsychic ("no dead matter, only quiet matter"). Land carries an Exousia signature because everything in it contributes — including soulless fauna/flora, which is why a region's magic reflects its wildlife and why the Disruption had to strip-and-replace rather than add.

Routed, not imported

  • The Cosmic Wound — held open as a larger cosmological question rather than canonized. Leading candidate: the Wound = Skyne's absence/death-echo; the Disruption a localized tearing of it. Filed in Open Questions — The Disruption and folded into the paused Disruption thread in Worldbuilding_TODO. Disruption framing flagged PRIORITY.

Preserved in IdeaBank

  • Force/Form/Flow (Three Pillars) — flagged as the best leftover, a candidate second axis for magic/combat. Plus the dropped All-Soul entity, the 27-Aspect Synthesis Pantheon (kept as a naming bank), and Awakening (spell-spawned spirits).

Resolved questions

  • Atoms or Exousia? (IdeaBank scrap) — resolved to canon via the panpsychic substrate.

2026-06-17 — Consistency audit & master-doc reconciliation

Audited existing docs against this session's changes (party relationships, character pages, Kadmos/Elpidi/Euphen resolutions, the Religion/Government/Society batch, Sophia↔Nacrine).

  • WorldbuildingSynthesis.md reconciled to new canon: its religion section now centers Henosis (Forest-/Device-worship reframed as heterodox margins); the Union is noted as a constitutional monarchy; the Adventurer's Guild added; the Elpidi "discipline of harmony" added; "Vanarist" → "Vanarite".
  • Verified clean: all internal anchors/links, the mkdocs nav, CLAUDE.md, Character_Digest, Characters, Party_Combat, and Party_Relationships.
  • Flagged (not fixed): the v0 story drafts (Story_Overview.md, Outline_v0.md) are out of sync (stale "Aeon"/"parliamentary system"; no Union/Nacrine/Henosis); the "Elder Sophia" ↔ Wisdom-Eidolon ambiguity; and "Theurgy" remains undefined. Added to Open Questions.

2026-06-17 — Sophia confirmed as a (former) Nacrine; Open Questions reorganized

  • Sophia ↔ Nacrine (resolved). Confirmed that Sophia was grandfathered into the Nacrine after the Disruption — the institutional form her coerced Collective service took, and the source of her augmentations. She is now a renegade from the order. Resolves the Nacrine↔Sophia open question. Affected: characters/sophia.md, Factions.md (Nacrine), Character_Digest.md.
  • Open Questions reorganized. Added a dedicated Naming & Terminology section and moved the religion/government/clerical naming questions into it. Added Cyrus & Sophia's profession as a new naming question (Runic Builder vs. Aligner vocabulary).

2026-06-17 — Religion, Government & Society batch

First ingest of the "Religions, Government and Large Social Groups" material. Largely additive (it fills long-standing stubs), with a small number of overrides.

Additions

  • Henosis — the Collective-cultivated state religion is now a fully detailed faith (Bethels, Jurists, the Henoa Secundi, the Imams, purity/perfection doctrine, holy sites, gender doctrine, sub-sects: the Mendicants and the suppressed heretical order). Elaborates the "henosis" the Collective was already described as preaching.
  • The Union — the government stub is replaced with a full constitutional monarchy: the constitution, the Chief Council, the Queen (the Mother Pearl), the Royal Harem (the Nacreous Matrix), the Nacrine order, and the military (Wall Guards, Expeditionary Force, Interior Guards).
  • The Adventurer's Guild — added as a major institution (Light Tower HQ, heterodox standing, guildwives co-op, Vanarite/Elpidi sympathies).
  • New page Society.md — class structure (nobility, commoners, slavery/indenture), gender & daily religious life, folk-religious practices, and the economy (plant-based currency, the mints, banking).
  • Locations.md — added the Light Tower landmark and noted that the Decagram precinct also houses Henosis's great Bethel.

Overrides / retcons

  • "Pentagram" → Decagram. The raw notes referred to a central holy "Pentagram"; canon's central structure is the ten-pointed Decagram (consistent with the religion's own ten-pointed-star iconography). Normalized to Decagram. Open question: whether the great Bethel sits within the Decagram precinct (current working assumption) or is a distinct adjacent site. See Open Questions.

Open questions spawned

~14 new entries under Open Questions → Religion, Government & Society (unsettled names for the religion/government/clerical tiers/orders; the Nacrine↔Sophia tie; the Adventurer's Guild leader's identity; "false Theurgy"; the Henoa Secundi's true nature; and more).

Resolved questions

  • What does the religion look like in practice? — answered by the Henosis material.
  • What do they use for currency? — plant-based money (seeds/seed-pods); the mints are living plants tended by elite farming families.
  • What does the government structure (The Union) look like in detail? — answered by the Union expansion (Decagram-sharing nuance partly remains open).
