Named Devices — Canonical Mechanical Catalog

The canonical mechanical home for named Devices and Glyphion: charge resources, Device-only Skills, gear-conditional Momentum options, and status grants. This is where a Device's kit-facing rules live.

This doc sits between the two existing Device references: - Devices.md — the in-world lore catalog (what a Device is in the fiction: Germ/Source/Set/Form, origins, named artifacts). Lore lives there; this doc points back to it. - Equipment_System.md — the systemic framework (how equipment grants Skills/Momentum/charges in general). The rules a Device obeys live there; this doc applies them to specific Devices.

Decoupling principle. A Device is equipment, not a character's kit. Even when a Device is closely associated with one character (the Entropic Blade is the runic sword Cyrus acquires), its rules are documented here, not woven into that character's combat archetype. A character's archetype describes who they are without any specific Device equipped; Devices are additive. This keeps Devices swappable and stops any single Device from becoming load-bearing on a character's identity.

Conventions

Every Device entry below follows the Equipment_System model:

  • Charge resource. Most Devices carry their own consumable charges (per-combat, refilled by ampoules or the Forest), spent on Device-only Skills and effects. This is separate from MP/Praxis and AP.
  • Device-only Skills. Skills available only while the Device is equipped (subject to the FF9-style learning hypothesis in Equipment_System §Skill sources).
  • Gear-conditional Momentum. Some Devices unlock a Momentum option that is unavailable without the Device. The player may select it at configuration only while the Device is equipped (see Momentum_System).
  • Gear-derived statuses. Statuses a Device can apply (e.g. Burning from a fire imbuement) are documented with the Device, not listed among the wielder's innate status specialties.

Weapons-tier Devices

The Entropic Blade

A runic sword that Cyrus acquires partway through the campaign. Additive, optional equipment — not part of Cyrus's combat archetype. Cyrus fights as a Positional Striker with or without it; the Blade is a power he can pick up, like any character acquiring a Device. (Origin and circumstances of acquisition: TBD — see Devices.md.)

  • Charge resource. The Blade carries its own consumable charge pool (self-charged Device; functions even in the Exousia-inert city, per Exousia_Economy §5).
  • Imbue (charge effect). Spend a charge to imbue the wielder's sword attacks with a chosen elemental damage type until the charge runs out — turning ordinary strikes into typed damage the player matches against enemy resistances.
  • Device-only Skills. Signature elemental cleaves, charged thrusts, and similar Blade-bound techniques (full spec TBD against the Skill anatomy).
  • Gear-conditional Momentum — Tune. While the Blade is equipped, the wielder may select Tune: gain an extra AP when they change the Blade's elemental imbuement mid-combat. Rewards reading enemy resistances and re-tuning per opponent. (Per-turn cap TBD by playtest.)
  • Gear-derived statuses. Can apply elemental statuses matching its active imbuement — e.g. Burning in fire mode. These are Blade-derived, not innate to any wielder.

Asura (stub)

A blade forged to battle monsters consumed by magic — a magic-consuming vortex blade. Lore in Devices.md. Mechanics TBD (likely an anti-magic / Exousia-drain weapon).

Abe (stub)

Named only; details TBD. Lore in Devices.md.

Glyphion

The high-impact, charge-based equipment class: 1–3 charges per combat, effects beyond normal progression, a "when do I spend this?" strategic resource (see Equipment_System §Glyphion). Roster needs building to that bar; current entries are CDD-legacy stubs.

Glyphion Signature effect Status
Earth Gauntlets Earthquake — AOE earth damage + knockback Stub (needs full spec)
Shadow Cloak Teleport — repositioning Stub
Gravity Core Singularity — massive enemy displacement Stub
